Right
next door to the Driftwood is the Oyster and Maritime Museum. The museum
provides interesting insights into island history and into the oyster and seafood businesses which
were
at one time major industries on Chincoteague. The Oyster Museum is also
home of the First Order Fresnel Lens from the Assateague Lighthouse |

![]() Enjoy
an afternoon or evening cruise along the Chincoteague Channel on one of
the island's many tour boats, or rent your own boat just off Main
Street. Afterwards, visit one of our fine restaurants on the
waterfront, along Main Street, or closer to the Driftwood along Maddox
Boulevard for seafood or just about anything that suits your fancy. And
on late spring or summer evenings, you can enjoy music at a number of
locations along Main Street or ice cream at Mullers Old Fashioned Ice
Cream Parlor or at Mr. Whippy's. |
![]() For your leisure hours, you'll find a great variety of shops at numerous locations around the island. Well-known wildlife artists and craftsmen maintain galleries on Main Street and Maddox Boulevard, and fine works from the island's decoy carvers are available in a number of shops. |

The
children will certainly enjoy minigolf, the touch tanks at the Island
Aquarium, or the playground in Memorial Park opposite Assateague Island.
And for the older kids, crabbing or fishing at one of the town docks or
along Assateague Channel has always been a popular diversion. Finally,
for the more adventurous, kayaking, deep-sea fishing, parasailing and
diving are all available during the warmer months |
